More About Your Stay

Lime burning was extensive in Cornwall during the 18th and 19th centuries with the majority of kilns being located on the coast or tidal rivers where coal could be easily delivered by sea. The Lime Kiln at West Portholland was opened in 1805 but had closed as a working kiln by 1875.

Located right on the Cornish coast path, there are breathtaking walks in both directions – to the east is the tiny hamlet of East Portholland, then onto renowned Porthluney beach, whilst to the west, the rugged coast leads to the traditional fishing hamlet of Portloe.

Please note that West Portholland, although a tiny hamlet, is a beach car park mainly for locals, but in mid-summer it can become quite vibrant and busy. Plenty to watch from the balcony.
